Human beings, men even more than women, are drilled to deny their emotions; big girls don't cry. Emotions have to be re-discovered, and appropriately, readably, harmlessly expressed. In movies, emotions are mainly expressed by the actor's face (close-up), on stage by the actor's body (long shot). Body language has a grammar and a vocabulary.

Based on Lecoq’s teaching style – encouraging performers to investigate and create instead of transferring them codified skills, and on Grotowski’s paratheatrical phase – attempting to transcend the separation between performer and spectator, Sofía Neukom developed a unique way to re-connect with your emotions and hence connect with your audience.

Sofía helps actors to develop a body language, which is meaningful and readable. Movements, expressions and feelings are the main components of the language. All her workshops are not only contextual and bespoke but dynamically adapted to the current, actual mood and physical condition of the participants. The workshops, e.g. buffoons, devised theatre and children's theatre, lead to a presentation. The show can be modest but it demonstrates to the participants, and potentially to an audience, the acquired skills and the work outcomes.

Sofía Neukom enseñó a construir bufones

La artista colombiana Sofía Neukom, con 14 años de experiencia en Europa, donde ha recibido clases de actuación y dirección de teatro y cine en Suiza y actualmente pertenece a una academia londinense, realizó esta semana los talleres de arte dramático y físico "Bufones", para los que fue invitada por el Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Cultura, interesado en transmitir estas experiencias a los artistas venezolanos, y en este caso, a los tachirenses. El taller se llevó a cabo primero en las instalaciones de la Fundación Red de Arte del estado Táchira, y luego en la sede de la Escuela Regional de Teatro en el antiguo liceo Alberto Adriani, donde según Jhon Toro, productor de la actividad, el objetivo del taller fue captar y sensibilizar el talento regional, además de dar una oferta en el mes de agosto, cuando los estudiantes están de vacaciones. "Es un taller psicofísico de construcción de personajes, en particular la construcción de los personajes del siglo XIII, como el bufón. Aspecto de gran importancia en al formación de actores, o de aquellas personas interesadas en profundizar sus estudios dentro del arte dramático", indicó el también actor y director de teatro, Jhon Toro. Physical theatre workshops

After the very successful theatrical project Verflixt? Verhext! conducted in Olten (Switzerland) in April 2008 with 60 pupils from local primary schools, Sofía Neukom directed during the summer 2008 several physical theatre workshops in San Cristóbal (Venezuela). Back in Zurich, she works with Insieme, bringing dance to children with special needs, and with the City of Zurich, teaching physical theatre at the Lavater and Wollishofen schools and leading the students to a full theatrical production.
